Quote from chapter 1
“What kinds of city streets are safe and what kinds are not?” This quote is insightful since it focuses on the security in streets. This quote is necessary since it emphasizes on neighborhoods that people choose to reside. The choice of residential houses determines a person`s safety. This issue is striking since it provides the foundation of safety and security in urban centers. In my view, this quote brings to light some issues that are rather avoided and not given utmost consideration. In most instances, there is a tendency to overlook the security of the place that one wants to reside (Jacobs, 1989).
Quote from chapter 3
“This judgment represents a profound misunderstanding of cities.” This quote is a representation of life in the city. People walk in the streets of cities and this is seen as unusual. The argument that life for people who walk in the streets live a deplorable life is a misconception. The social life in the streets ensures that people of various walks of life come together. I choose this quote because it explains the diversity of life in the city (Jacobs, 1989).
Quote from chapter 5
“Parks are volatile places.” This quote implies that neighborhood parks are characterized by unpopularity, as well as popularity. Most parks have the tendency to experience violence. When planners carry out urban planning, they do not consider how parks should be arranged. This leads to the deplorable state of parks. This quote does not give a comprehensive description of parks since there are some parks that tend to be better than others (Jacobs, 1989).
Quote from chapter 6
“Neighborhood is harmful to city planning.” I chose this quote because it gives a description of the problems that city neighborhoods experience. In the United States and other parts of the world, neighborhoods face a lot of problems and they also prove to be challenging for city planners (Jacobs, 1989).
